Ghanian artist Mr. Eazi and producer DJ Juls have made an effort to sonically push the Ghanian music scene proclaiming it Africa’s new sound. The duo are on a winning streak of hit records dating back to 2014 when DJ Juls reconstructed Mr. Eazi’s “Bankulize” song from his 2013 mixtape “About To Blow”. Bankulize (click to listen) set the tone for the rest of Mr. Eazi music that will follow, with smooth minimalistic downbeat afro-pop/dancehall rhythm fused with some new age r&b like the Joey B and Dammy Krane feature track Hollup (click to listen) and Efya assisted track Skin Tight (click to listen).
Mr. Eazi who real name is Tosin Ajibade, voice is always as tranquil as the songs he’s crooning over and its never abrasive. During a Pulse TV interview, Mr Eazi said “If you listen to my songs there’s no giddy giddy, it’s just chill, even when I jump on fast songs.” (click to watch)
Eazi’s most popular song, Bankulize, which means to get together, share lyrical similarities to r&b music from the early 2000’s where the singer falls for a young woman who only express interest after finding out Mr Eazi is a popular artist. The music-video amplifies the dramatization of the song with a somber Mr. Eazi singing in the rain while being watch by a silhouette of a woman peering through a shield of glass. The musical and visual choices of Mr. Eazi and DJ Juls have proven them to be a winning duo creating a wave that is new and exciting to the afro-pop scene. Mr. Eazi’s “Life is Easy” album is expecting a July 2016 release date.
